David is currently exhibiting his work at Sunbow Gallery, Shanghai. Here's what he has to say about the show: This exhibition celebrates my dance,my visual affair with shanghai. It's a response to the warp and weft of the city: it's an amalgam of influences Chinese art and architecture,western early modernism and contemporary internationalism. But it's the city... It's the thrill of the overpass freeways in a taxi at 100miles an hour, it's seeing the grace of overlapping family life of the lilongs to observing fallen bicycles looking elegantly poised in dishevelment. Seeing couples, as I have ,dancing the tango just off the Bund early in the morning is a metaphor for my to and fro with the city. It is allied with my love of the medium of ink on Chinese paper. So subtle,so evocative and ever so slightly unmanageable ... very Shanghai.
